When Nothing Feels Exciting Anymore
It doesn’t always feel heavy. Sometimes, it just feels… empty.
Lately, I’ve noticed something I don’t particularly like.

Nothing really excites me.
Not in a dramatic, “life is meaningless” way. Just a quiet disinterest. The kind where you have things you could do, things you should do, even things you once wanted to do but you just don’t feel anything strong enough to start.
Let me say that I have been feeling really lost too.
And somehow, that makes it worse.
Because when you’re overwhelmed, at least you can point to something. When you’re sad, you can name it. But when you’re just… uninterested? It feels like you’re stuck in between versions of yourself. Like you’re lost.
I don’t think we talk about this phase enough. Or maybe we don’t even understand it enough to talk about it.
Because how do you explain something you don’t fully understand yourself?
The phase where you’re no longer who you used to be, but you haven’t fully become who you’re meant to be either. The one where you can’t quite define who you are anymore. So everything feels a bit off.
Things that used to excite you don’t hit the same way anymore. Your habits start slipping. Your energy drops. And even the simplest things like reading a book or taking a walk feel heavier than they should.
For a while, I thought it meant something was wrong with me. I could argue that something was definitely wrong.
That maybe I was becoming lazy. Or distracted. Or inconsistent. Or just… dull.
But I’m starting to think it might be something else.
Maybe it’s a signal. A pointer.
Not a sign to stop. But a sign to pause and pay attention.
Because sometimes, disinterest isn’t the absence of passion. It’s majorly the result of being mentally stretched, emotionally tired, or quietly overwhelmed by everything you’re trying to carry.
Sometimes, it’s what happens when you’ve outgrown your old motivations, but haven’t yet found new ones. When you are trying to change direction, but you don’t yet know which way to turn or how to.
And in that space, forcing yourself to feel inspired doesn’t really work. If anything, it makes it worse.
What does help, at least a little, is showing up anyway. Gently. But this even can be HARD!
You begin by helping yourself to understand that you just have to do what you got to do.
Lowering the pressure. Doing small things. Reading when you don’t feel like it. Writing when your thoughts are empty. Showing up when you’d rather be left alone. Starting before you feel ready.
Just letting things be imperfect until they start to look good again.
I guess that’s why I’m writing this.
Not because I felt inspired, but because I didn’t. And I didn’t want to keep waiting until I did.
Maybe that’s the shift.
Not waiting to feel excited again, but building a life that doesn’t depend on excitement to function. A life where you can still move, still create, still show up—even on the quiet days. Especially on the quiet days.
If you’re in that space too, this is me saying that you’re not stuck. You’re just in between.
In between different versions of you that are still becoming. In between answers that you haven’t found yet.
Want to hear a little secret?
In-between phases don’t last forever.
